Catford Movers Terms and Conditions of Removal Services
These Terms and Conditions set out the basis on which Catford Movers provides residential and commercial removal and related services within the United Kingdom. By requesting a quotation, making a booking, or allowing our team to commence work, you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions.
1. Definitions
In these Terms and Conditions, the following expressions have the meanings given below:
1.1 Client means the individual, business, or organisation requesting or receiving services from Catford Movers.
1.2 Services means removal, transport, loading, unloading, packing, unpacking, storage handling, or any other associated services agreed in writing between the Client and Catford Movers.
1.3 Goods means all items, belongings, furniture, equipment, and effects in respect of which the Services are provided.
1.4 Contract means the agreement between the Client and Catford Movers for the supply of Services, incorporating these Terms and Conditions and any written quotation or confirmation.
1.5 Service Area means the geographic locations in which Catford Movers operates within the United Kingdom, as advised by us from time to time.
2. Quotations and Service Scope
2.1 Any quotation issued by Catford Movers is based on the information provided by the Client regarding the type and quantity of Goods, access conditions, addresses, timing, and the required scope of Services.
2.2 Quotations are normally provided as fixed prices or, where specified, as hourly rates with minimum charge periods. Quotations are exclusive of additional charges for tolls, parking, congestion charges, storage, waiting time, or specialist services unless expressly stated.
2.3 Quotations are valid for 30 days from the date of issue unless otherwise stated. We may withdraw or amend a quotation at any time before acceptance.
2.4 The Services covered by the quotation will be limited to those expressly described. Any additional Services requested on the day of the move or discovered due to inaccurate or incomplete information may result in extra charges.
2.5 The Client is responsible for ensuring that all property details, addresses, and access instructions are accurate. Changes to dates, addresses, or scope may affect availability and price.
3. Booking Process
3.1 A booking is made when the Client confirms acceptance of a quotation and Catford Movers issues a written or electronic confirmation of the agreed Services, date, and pricing.
3.2 Catford Movers may request a deposit or pre-authorisation as a condition of confirming a booking. The amount and due date will be communicated to the Client at the time of booking.
3.3 Bookings are subject to availability of vehicles, staff, and resources on the chosen date. We do not guarantee availability until confirmation has been issued.
3.4 The Client must notify us promptly of any changes to the booking, including dates, times, addresses, access conditions, or volume of Goods. Catford Movers reserves the right to adjust the price or decline changes where adequate resources cannot be provided.
3.5 Where access requires special permissions, lift reservations, parking suspensions, or building management approvals, the Client is responsible for arranging these unless explicitly agreed otherwise.
4. Payments
4.1 Unless otherwise agreed in writing, payment terms are as follows:
a. For domestic moves, any required deposit must be paid at the time of booking, with the balance due no later than the commencement of the Services on the move day.
b. For business and commercial Clients, payment terms will be set out in the quotation or invoice. In the absence of specific terms, payment is due within 7 days of the invoice date.
4.2 Catford Movers accepts payment by methods notified to the Client during the booking process. We reserve the right to refuse cheques or certain payment methods.
4.3 If payment is not received by the due date, Catford Movers may suspend or cancel Services, retain Goods under a lien until payment is made in full, and charge interest on overdue sums at the applicable statutory rate.
4.4 All prices are stated inclusive or exclusive of value added tax as indicated in the quotation. The Client is responsible for any applicable taxes, charges, or levies.
5. Cancellations, Postponements, and Waiting Time
5.1 The Client may cancel or postpone a booking by giving written or electronic notice. Any deposit may be refundable or non-refundable as set out below.
5.2 If the Client cancels:
a. More than 7 days before the scheduled move date, Catford Movers may refund any deposit less reasonable administrative costs.
b. Between 7 days and 48 hours before the scheduled move date, Catford Movers may retain up to 50 percent of the total quoted price.
c. Less than 48 hours before the scheduled move date, Catford Movers may charge up to 100 percent of the total quoted price.
5.3 If the Client postpones the move to a new date, charges may be applied or waived at our discretion, depending on notice given and availability for the new date.
5.4 Catford Movers reserves the right to cancel or reschedule a booking in circumstances beyond our reasonable control, such as extreme weather, vehicle breakdown, staff illness, accidents, or legal restrictions. In such cases, we will offer an alternative date or a refund of any payments for unperformed Services, but we will not be liable for consequential losses.
5.5 Waiting time may be charged where our team is delayed from starting or completing work due to circumstances outside our control, including late access, unprepared Goods, legal or administrative delays, or unavailable keys. Waiting time will be charged at the rate advised in the quotation or at our standard hourly rate.
6. Client Responsibilities
6.1 The Client is responsible for:
a. Ensuring that Goods are properly packed, labelled, and ready for transport unless a packing service has been specifically agreed.
b. Declaring any fragile, valuable, or unusual items, including antiques, artworks, instruments, or items with a value exceeding standard limits.
c. Providing safe and suitable access at collection and delivery locations, including parking arrangements and notifying us of restrictions such as narrow roads, low bridges, or stair-only access.
d. Obtaining all necessary permissions and consents for moving Goods into or out of properties.
e. Ensuring that appliances are disconnected, defrosted, and drained where applicable.
6.2 The Client or an authorised representative must be present at collection and delivery addresses to guide the team, identify items, and sign relevant documentation unless otherwise agreed.
7. Excluded and Restricted Items
7.1 Catford Movers does not accept responsibility for, and may decline to carry, the following items:
a. Hazardous, explosive, or flammable substances such as gas cylinders, fuel, chemicals, or paints.
b. Illegal goods or items whose carriage would breach law or regulation.
c. Live animals, plants, or perishable items that require special conditions.
d. High value items including cash, jewellery, watches, securities, or important documents, unless expressly agreed in writing.
7.2 If such items are included without our knowledge, they will be moved at the Client’s sole risk and may be removed or disposed of in accordance with law and safety guidance.
8. Waste Regulations and Disposal
8.1 Catford Movers operates in accordance with applicable UK waste management and environmental regulations. We are not a general waste carrier and will only remove and dispose of items where this is expressly included in the quotation.
8.2 The Client must not request or permit our staff to dispose of waste unlawfully, including fly-tipping or leaving items in unauthorised locations.
8.3 Where disposal services are provided, items will be taken only to authorised facilities or reuse channels in line with regulatory obligations.
8.4 The Client is responsible for accurately describing items for disposal. Additional charges may apply where items are heavier, bulkier, or regulated in a way not previously disclosed.
8.5 Catford Movers reserves the right to refuse to carry or dispose of items that are contaminated, hazardous, or not permitted under relevant waste and safety regulations.
9. Liability and Limitations
9.1 Catford Movers will exercise reasonable care and skill in providing the Services. Our liability for loss of or damage to Goods is subject to the limitations in this section.
9.2 Unless agreed otherwise in writing, liability for loss or damage to Goods while in our custody or control is limited to a reasonable market value per item, subject to an overall limit per job. These limits will be specified in our quotation or company policy available on request.
9.3 We will not be liable for:
a. Loss or damage resulting from inherent defects, pre-existing damage, wear and tear, or inadequate packing by the Client.
b. Electrical or mechanical derangement of appliances or equipment unless caused by our negligence.
c. Damage arising from dismantling or reassembly of furniture or equipment where this involves risk to structural integrity.
d. Loss of data or digital content from computers, drives, or electronic devices.
e. Indirect, consequential, or economic losses such as loss of profits, income, use, or opportunity.
9.4 The Client must inspect Goods as soon as reasonably practicable upon delivery. Any visible loss or damage that may give rise to a claim must be notified to Catford Movers in writing within 7 days of the move date. Failure to notify within this period may affect our ability to investigate and may reduce or extinguish liability.
9.5 Nothing in these Terms and Conditions limits or excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law.
10. Insurance
10.1 Catford Movers maintains appropriate insurance in connection with the Services provided. Details of such cover, including any exclusions or limits, are available on request.
10.2 The Client is encouraged to consider obtaining additional insurance or notifying their existing insurer about the move, particularly for high value or sensitive items that may fall outside our standard cover.
11. Delays Outside Our Control
11.1 Catford Movers will not be liable for delays or failure to perform Services where such delay or failure is due to events beyond our reasonable control, including but not limited to severe weather, traffic incidents, road closures, public transport disruption, accidents, strikes, or legal restrictions.
11.2 Where possible we will take reasonable steps to mitigate the effects of such events and to keep the Client informed of revised timings or alternative arrangements.
12. Complaints and Dispute Resolution
12.1 If the Client has a concern or complaint about the Services, they should raise it with Catford Movers as soon as practicable, providing a clear description of the issue and any supporting evidence.
12.2 We will aim to acknowledge and investigate complaints promptly and propose a fair resolution where appropriate.
12.3 If a dispute cannot be resolved directly between the parties, either party may seek advice from an independent body or pursue remedies through the courts in accordance with the governing law provision below.
13. Data Protection and Privacy
13.1 Catford Movers collects and uses personal information solely for the purposes of providing Services, managing bookings, processing payments, and complying with legal obligations.
13.2 Personal data will be handled in line with applicable UK data protection laws. Information may be shared with third parties where necessary for the performance of Services, such as payment processors or subcontractors, or where required by law.
13.3 Clients have rights in relation to their personal data, including rights of access and correction, subject to legal conditions.
14. Subcontracting
14.1 Catford Movers may subcontract part or all of the Services to carefully selected third parties where necessary for operational reasons, while remaining responsible for the proper performance of the Contract.
14.2 These Terms and Conditions will continue to apply to any Services delivered through subcontractors.
15. Variation of Terms
15.1 Catford Movers may update or amend these Terms and Conditions from time to time. The version in force at the time of booking will apply to that Contract.
15.2 Any variation to these Terms and Conditions will be effective only if agreed in writing by an authorised representative of Catford Movers.
